Introducing Modern Whimsy Home – Furniture Line!
Congratulations! You found Modern Whimsy Home! Even if you’re not in the market for “artful” furniture, looking at our pieces is almost as much fun as owning one. The feeling you get from surfing the site and seeing all of our beauties has been compared to a trip to the candy store. Our furniture is “eye candy” for those that are enamored with design. Take a second and have a look around. At the very least you may be inspired by our use of color and pattern.
What made you start this funky furniture line:
My obsession with color and pattern is no secret. I have been designing for a decade and I’m always on the hunt for really unique furniture pieces for my clients. I have yet to run across a company that offers exactly what I am looking for. Everything is too safe, too expensive or not accessible enough. I have also struggled for a long time with designing my own home, not because I can’t find things that I like but rather I like too many things. In working closely with my design assistant Rebecca I discovered she shares my obsession! We see fabric or a bold paint color and get the same feeling some ladies get over a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes. Once I shared my vision for creating these crazy furniture pieces with Rebecca, she went right to work and has been the driving force behind making them available to the public.
Where do you get your inspiration:
We might take our cues from a particular fabric pattern, the lines of the furniture or even fashion. Rebecca and I have committed to only creating pieces that we LOVE and would use in our own homes. Obviously we can’t hold on to all of them ( that would be selfish) so we have opted to create them for others to enjoy, it’s a little like therapy for us. First we design a piece we love, give it a name, and then it finds a home. There is a rare feeling of satisfaction in that for both of us.
Can you duplicate a piece that has been sold?
Not likely. If you see something you can’t live with out you better snag it. We hunt down antiques and rare finds which makes multiples of one style an impossibility. We feel that this is part of what makes each piece so special and add to the character of owning “the one and only” of it’s kind.
What’s next for Modern Whimsy Home?
We have so much planned over the next year and it’s not all just about aesthetics. Function and the revolving door of design is always at the for front of my mind. Rebecca and I are collaborating to offer some other textiled accessories that will solve some of the design dilemmas my clients have been trying to master for years. I want to make great design simple and accessible to everyone that decides they want it. Not everything beautiful has to be complicated. I have decided to create some of the really unique items that have proven impossible to find ( because they only exist in my head) and make them a reality. Stay tuned! I have some ideas that I can not believe another designer has not come up with!
